The Shipibo-Conibo Process
The Shipibo-Conibo are native from the Peruvian Amazon forest, who live in community like their ancestors did, keeping their culture and expressing it through textile handicraft, dyed, hand painted and embroidered, using their ancient techniques.
The Shipibo fabric is 100% cotton, hand painted by the artisans with natural dyes made by them. The process begins by making the dye from bark and mud; after several stages the desired colour is gotten. Then the hand painting and the embroidering of symbolic designs shape geometric figures of great complexity.
